Licensing fees

Licensing fees

Licensing fees are set by the Secretary of State and are based on the 'rateable value' band of your premises.

Check your rateable value on your business rates invoice or check the Valuation Office Agency rating list.

In addition to licensing fees, you will need to pay annual maintenance fees, which are also based on the rateable value of a premises.

Fees are payable by cheque to 'City of York Council'.

Licensing fees for churches and village halls

You don't need to pay a fee if the application is made by a:

  • church or chapel
  • village hall
  • parish hall
  • community hall
  • other similar building that is used for the provision of regulated entertainment only

Licensing fees for schools and colleges

You don't need to pay a fee if the application is made by an educational institution where the provision of entertainment on the premises is carried on by the educational institution for and on behalf of the purposes of the education institution.
