Coppergate road surface repairs

Coppergate will be closed to all vehicles and cycles from 9.00am on Monday 6 October to 4.00pm on Thursday 9 October, due to works to repair the road surface and pavement along part of the road.

The businesses along the road are all open and pedestrian access to Coppergate is not affected.

City of York Council has written to businesses and residents along Coppergate to advise them of tarmac repair work, which follows requests from local businesses and a series of recent visits to traders along Coppergate to discuss the issues.

While on site, the council will also make a section of the pavement safe by lifting the kerbs and making the pathway level with tarmac, before being replaced with flagstones in the future.

Site staff will be on hand to advise and assist residents and businesses about any access restrictions once the works are ongoing. Businesses have been advised of delivery access which will be accommodated where possible during the works, from the Piccadilly side of Coppergate.

All on-street parking in the working area and close to the works will be suspended at these times. Any specific access requirements may be arranged by speaking to the site traffic management operatives, who will co-ordinate with residents’ and businesses’ requirements around the ongoing construction operations.

Emergency services will always be always permitted through the works.

Delays are expected, so please plan ahead and use public transport, walking and cycling where possible. To help with this, you can sign up for email alerts about roadworks and traffic disruptions. First create an account with One Network. Once signed in, you can select the location, type, and frequency of One Network alerts you wish to receive.

Outside of these works, Coppergate is a bus lane and private vehicle access is restricted between 8.00am and 6.00pm every day.

The works will affect the way we travel. See information for:
