City Walls partial closure notice

A section of the City Wall walkway between Fishergate Bar and Fishergate Postern will be closed due to conservation works on the following dates:

  • Closed Monday 16 June to Tuesday 17 June
  • Re-opened Wednesday 18 June to Sunday 22 June
  • Closed again Monday 23 June to Friday 27 June

Additionally, a section of the City Walls walkway between Bootham Bar and Monk Bar will be closed for conservation works from Wednesday 18 June to Friday 20 June

Access gates will be locked on both sections during the closure periods, with signs in place showing where you can rejoin the walkway. Find our more about City Wall care and conservation including how our in-house Stonemason Team are carrying out conservation works at Bootham Bar from Monday 16 June, for up to 6 months.

Visit York's City Walls walkway, an elevated circular route around the city centre, which can be accessed on foot, for free, throughout the year.

York's historic city walls are a major feature of our historic environment and civic identity. There are significant remains of all principal periods of their development; the city walls make visible over 2,000 years of urban change in York.
