Healthy Families service
Healthy Families is a free service from York Health Trainers, designed to help families build healthy habits, feel more confident, and enjoy a happier everyday life.
We take a kind, non-judgmental approach that focuses on what really matters - your family’s well-being, confidence, and routines - not weight or diets.
Whether you're looking for tips on eating well, ideas to help your child feel more settled and confident, or small changes that help your whole family feel better, we’re here to support you.

What we offer
Families can access around six personalised sessions with one of our friendly Health Trainers. These sessions are relaxed, flexible, and shaped around what your family needs most. They can be online or face-to-face to fit around you.
Your Health Trainer can support you with:
- Eating well as a family - simple, affordable ways to enjoy balanced meals and snacks
- Fun ways to be more active - ideas to help children (and grown-ups!) move more through play, outdoor fun, and everyday routines
- Emotional well-being - support with children’s feelings, confidence, resilience, and managing day-to-day pressures
- Parenting support - practical tips and strategies to make family life a little easier
How the sessions work
Our Health Trainers come to your home or meet you in a local community space, making the service easy to access and comfortable for your family.
- flexible appointments that fit around school, work, and family life
- family-led and personalised - you decide what’s important to work on
- in-person support, because it helps build stronger connections
- completely free, with no pressure, no judgment, and no focus on weight
The child is always at the heart of the programme - but the whole family benefits from the support.
Compassionate weight-neutral approach
Healthy Families is not a weight-loss programme.
Instead, we focus on helping families make small, positive changes that can make a big difference over time.
Our approach builds:
- confidence
- healthier habits
- positive routines
- better emotional well-being
- meaningful connections with your community
We believe every family deserves support that is uplifting, friendly, and tailored to them.
