Apply for, renew or replace a disabled person's bus pass

You can apply for a (free) disabled person's bus pass via:

Without sufficient proof, we cannot issue you with a pass. Someone else may apply on your behalf, but they will still need to provide proof of your entitlement, plus a passport-style photograph of you.

To complete this form, you'll need:

  • a passport-style photograph of yourself
  • proof of your age (photocopy of passport, birth certificate, driving licence, medical card, letter or statement from the DWP)
  • proof of your address (photocopy of a recent utility or council tax bill)
  • proof of disability (find out what's required on our disabled bus pass page)

Apply for a disabled person's bus pass in person

You can apply for a disabled person's bus pass in person at our Customer Centre - you need to contact the Concessionary Bus Passes Team to make an appointment.

When you attend your appointment, you'll need to provide proof of:

  • proof of your age (photocopy of passport, birth certificate, driving licence, medical card, letter or statement from the DWP)
  • proof of your address (photocopy of a recent utility or council tax bill)
  • proof of disability (find out what's required on our disabled bus pass page)

You do not need to bring a photograph when you apply in person, as our staff will take your picture for you.

Once your application has been approved, you will receive your new pass in the post within 5 working days.

Applying for your disabled person's bus pass by post

Contact the Concessionary Bus Passes Team to request a postal form to apply for your disabled person's bus pass by post.

When you return your form by post you must include:

  • a passport-style photograph of yourself (write your name on the back)
  • proof of your age (photocopy of passport, birth certificate, driving licence, medical card, letter or statement from the DWP)
  • proof of your address (photocopy of a recent utility or council tax bill)
  • proof of disability (find out what's required on our disabled bus pass page)

Please allow up to 10 working days for us to process your application.

Renewing your disabled person's bus pass

We’ll automatically renew your disabled person’s bus pass unless it was issued because:

  • your condition has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on your ability to walk
  • you would be, or have been, refused a driving licence
  • or you have a learning disability

In these circumstances, you need to apply again to show you still qualify for the pass. Renew your disabled person's bus pass using our online form.

If your address has changed since your last pass was issued, contact the Concessionary Bus Passes Team.

If you’re moving into York and have a bus pass with another local authority, you’ll need to apply for a new bus pass from us. Your existing bus pass will need to be returned to your previous local authority.

Lost and stolen bus passes

If you've lost your pass you do not need to complete the application form or provide further supporting documents in order for a replacement to be issued.

Contact the Concessionary Bus Passes Team to request your replacement.

The charge for replacing a lost bus pass is £12.50.

Stolen passes will be replaced free of charge on production of a valid police incident number.

Please allow 5 working days for your replacement bus pass application to be processed.
