Fireworks causing noise

Inconsiderate and thoughtless use of fireworks can cause disturbance or distress to people and animals.

Fireworks and the law

You can light fireworks between 7.00am and 11.00pm on any day of the year. Outside of these times lighting fireworks is illegal. The Police enforce these laws and by breaking them you may face a fine or imprisonment.

The following celebrations allow extra times for lighting fireworks:

  • Bonfire Night, 5 November - fireworks are allowed until 12.00 midnight
  • New Year's Eve, 31 December - fireworks are allowed until 1.00am
  • Chinese New Year, usually in January or February - fireworks are allowed until 1.00am
  • Diwali, usually in October or November - fireworks are allowed until 1.00am
