Over 450 children and young people across the city will have access to their own laptops this summer, as part of a national scheme to help vulnerable young people during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The laptops will be distributed by children’s social workers to children and young people they’re working with who don’t currently have internet access, as well as recent care leavers.
Cllr Ian Cuthbertson, City of York Council’s Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: “This equipment is very welcome and will certainly go some way to helping children and young people access the online support and learning opportunities which are so necessary while face to face contact is reduced.
"I know that many schools across the city have also tried to support their students by supplying spare laptops where possible.
“To identify those who most need the equipment and then organise the hundreds of personal deliveries has been a significant logistical task and I’d like to thank all those involved for their hard work.”
