Councillor Keith Aspden, leader of City of York Council, said:

To successfully build back a better York, we must ensure a public health focus is at the heart of our recovery strategy.  That is why we are moving at pace to introduce new measures before the 15th June to support social distancing and help our local business community adapt to the changes in national guidance.”

“These resources have been created to support businesses across the city, including our secondary shopping areas in Acomb and Haxby, to help them adapt and offer a safe, welcoming experience for customers.  The designs demonstrate York’s people-first approach and complement the signage to be used across the city.”

Executive member for the economy and strategic planning, Cllr Andrew Waller, said:

“The coronavirus pandemic has had a significant impact on businesses across the region, country and world-wide. We’ve seen more businesses begin to reopen over the past weeks government guidance is revised constantly

“Monday will see a change in some more of these restrictions with non-essential shops allowed to open. We want to help these businesses start trading again whilst ensuring that national guidelines are followed to help reduce risk.

“I would encourage businesses to register for their free “Let’s be York” pack to help create a uniform pattern of signs and posters across the city , reinforcing key safety measures for residents and building confidence in the measures we are all taking to reduce the spread of infection.

You must register for a pack at www.york.gov.uk/BusinessToolkit. We will give you a timeslot and location for collection on Friday 12 or Saturday 13 June. We’ll have collection points at Shambles Market,  the council’s West Offices and at both of the city’s identified secondary shopping centres, Acomb and Haxby.

You will be given a location and a time to collect. Social distancing and infection control guidance will be in place during distribution, if you are showing symptoms please do not come to collect a pack.
