West Thorpe Methodist Church - ward grant report 2016-17
West Thorpe Methodist Church received a grant from Dringhouses and Woodthorpe Ward towards the purchase of a new cooker .
The applicant reported as follows:
''The cooker is made available for use by all groups that currently use the church building, including:
- community craft and chat grpups
- scouts, cubs and beavers
- brownies and rainbows
- French and Spanish lessons
- dance and drama groups
We have extended the use of the existing kitchen facilities by being able to offer the ability for groups to provide hot food when using the premises. Feedback from groups has been very positive. We have also started to use the kitchen to provide meals to the church congregation and their families.
The cooker is a valuable resource allowing the preparation of hot food by the groups. For example cub scouts discussed health and wellbeing and made healthy pizzas, cooking them using the oven and offering them to their families.''
When asked what learning can they share from the project they responded:
''The cooker is used for many more reasons than we initially expected. From cub scouts demonstrating health and wellbeing, to the church provide hot meals, reducing social isolation amongst the elderly.''
