Dringhouses Scout Group - ward grant report 2017-18
The Dringhouses Scout Group received a ward grant from Dringhouses and Woodthorpe towards purchase of camping equipment to enable the group to cope with increased membership and cater for groups ranging from 30 to 200 people.
The applicant reported as follows:
''The benefit of this additional equipment will be felt by all youth members in the group. It will allow us to continue delivering life changing adventures to our new members. With over 230 young people and the support of over 40 adults we are one of the largest scout groups in North Yorkshire, and the positive impact that Scouting has is felt across the ward. As a scout group we accept all young people from our local community and we will continue to promote community involvement.
With equipment purchased we were able to deliver our biggest Group Camp to date. We provided a weekend of adventurous activities to over 200 people. The catering equipment meant that we could cater from one marquee, where as before we would have had to split this over 2 or 3 locations on the camp site. The new tents meant that our Cub scouts were in warm and dry tents that are fit for purpose. The event shelters provided cover for groups taking part in Backwoods cooking, pioneering and team building challenges.''
When asked what learning can they share from the project they responded:
''Due to our charity status we were able to negotiate a discount with an oudoors equipment chain when it came to purchasing. This allowed us to reduce our bid.''
