Ward grant report from the Friends of Chapman's Pond

The Friends of Chapman's Pond received a ward grant from Dringhouses and Woodthorpe Ward in 2016-17 to pay for a storage container, pollarding and removal of overgrown trees.

The applicant reported as follows:

''The removal of overgrown trees reassures local residents of the safety of the site. The ability to have storage on site will allow us to encourage more volunteers and because we have fishing tackle on site we can encourage more locals to fish.

Local residents came along to help level the ground and cut back trees. Local people also took away cut wood and logs from the trees.

We pollarded and felled around 15 large willow trees which boarded the rear of several properties on Chaloners Road, installed a shipping container to be used to store equipment to allow volunteers to maintain the site and store fishing tackle to encourage more people to fish.

We intend to continue to manage the site, improve the fishing and encourage older fishermen and women to take part.''
