City of York Council will be carrying out carriageway resurfacing works on the A1237/A19 Shipton Road roundabout adjacent Rawcliffe Bar Park and Ride from Tuesday 9 May 2023.
To help ease traffic flow, works will take place at night, between 9.00pm and 6.00am, working week nights only. Weather permitting the scheme will be completed by 6.00am on Saturday 20 May 2023.
During the first week of the work, from Tuesday 9 May to Friday 12 May from 9.00pm at night to 6.00am the following morning, the A19 Shipton Road southeast of the roundabout (city side of the roundabout) will be closed between the roundabout and Manor Lane, as will the Park and Ride access road. The other approaches to the roundabout will operate under multiway signals.
A signed diversion will be in place via the A19/A1036/A59 and A1237 during the closure of the A19 Shipton Road.
During the second week of the work, from Monday 15 May to Friday 19 May from 9.00pm to 6.00am the following morning, all approaches to the roundabout will operate under multiway signals except for the Park and Ride access road, which will be closed.
Traffic management will be on-site during the works to assist motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
During the day, starting at 6.00am, the road will be fully reopened.
For safety reasons the speed limit will be reduced to 30 miles per hour on the approach to the roundabout for the full duration of the work. There will also be a temporary 40 miles per hour buffer zone approaching this 30 miles per hour zone on the A1237 and the A19 northwest of the roundabout.
As with any construction work, there is likely to be a certain amount of disruption and inconvenience to the public. However, everything will be done to keep this to a minimum.
