Flood alleviation work
We’re working with North Yorkshire Council and the White Rose Forest on a project to plant 200 hectares of trees at the confluence of the River Nidd, River Ure, River Swale and River Ouse.
We’re also working with the Environment Agency to buildings or reservoirs from the north of York to the confluence of the rivers; it’s hoped that 30 can be created over the next 20 years. Construction on the first scheme will start during the summer of 2021.
In the region of £60 million has been invested in York to protect more than 1,000 homes from the effects of flooding and climate change; a further £40 million will be invested during the next 4 years to further protect the city. Find out how to prepare for flooding.
