Nordic walking

Nordic Walking uses special poles to enhance walking style, with an upper body technique similar to that of cross country skiing.


Nordic walking courses

Our next four-week Learn to Nordic Walk course will take place on Fridays (17, 24 and 31 March, and 7 April 2017). The cost of the course is £25, which includes the hire of Nordic Walking poles. At the end of the course you will be issued with a Nordic Walking UK Freedom Card, which will enable you to attend affiliated walking groups anywhere in the UK.

Nordic walking social groups

For those already familiar with the technique, there are several social Nordic Walking groups in York:

Community Nordic Walks

Fridays: 10am to 11am.
Rowntree Park Car Park, Terry Avenue, York YO23 1JQ.
A fast-paced session for experienced walkers led by volunteers. Anyone with a Nordic Walking UK Freedom Passport may attend.
Cost: Free (£2 for pole hire)

Karen Heldt – Personal Trainer

Thursdays: 10am to 11am.
Rawcliffe Country Park Office, Rawcliffe Bar Park and Ride, York YO30 5XZ.
This walk includes additional exercises designed to improve muscle function.
Saturdays: 10am to 11am.
Rowntree Park Reading Café, Terry Avenue, York YO23 1JU.
Wellbeing walk.

Nordic Strides

Tuesdays: 10am to 11am - Wellbeing session; 7pm to 8pm - Workout session.
