HEAL stands for Health, Exercise, Activity and Lifestyle. The HEAL programme of activities is designed to help people with certain long-term medical conditions to start exercising safely and improve their health.
The HEAL programme is an Exercise Referral Scheme to which GPs and other health professionals can refer patients with medical conditions to receive specialist advice and support, to help them become more active.
Exercise can help enormously with a wide range of medical conditions including; diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, cancer, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, as well as mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. HEAL aims to help people overcome barriers to exercise by making it easier for them to get started.
HEAL produces monthly updates on scheme developments, achievements and activities - read the latest issue of the HEAL newsletter.
