York is regarded as one of the country's premier cycling cities. On 6 July 2014 the second stage of Le Grand Départ, saw the world's best cyclists ride from York to Sheffield including some of York’s best known streets and landmarks, such as York Minister - view a map of the route.
- The 101st running of Le Tour started in Leeds on July 5 with a 190km stage taking the riders to the spa town of Harrogate
- Stage 2 started from York with the riders tackling a 200km stage with climbs including Holme Moss on the way to Sheffield
- The 'Cycle Yorkshire: Ride The Routes' app follows the two-day stages of the 2014 Yorkshire Grand Départ
Cycling in York
York has an extensive network of off-road cycle paths and on-road cycle lanes for cyclists of all ages and abilities to enjoy.
Ample cycle parking is provided throughout the city, including several sites within the pedestrianised city centre.
