York offers activities and support groups for those with Autism and Asperger Syndrome. These include:
- Local NAS activity days
- The 'Acting Up' group at Riding Lights
- National Autism Society Trampolining Groups
- Autism-friendly screenings at local cinemas, including City Screen, Vue and Reel
- Sportsability - a range of different sport related clubs and events
- Choose 2 Youth Club run a regular group for children and young people with Asperger's or Autism aged 9 and above. See the webiste for more details.
Support for Parents and Children
Autism and Asperger Syndrome drop in sessions for parents and carers
Come along and meet other parents and carers of chlidren and young people with Autism and Asperger Syndrome. With access to symbol software, a colour printer and laminator and the opportunity to make resources at various venues in the city.

The Parent Mentoring Service
The Parent Mentoring Service uses trained volunteers to provide one to one support to families in York who have a disabled child/young person or child/young person with additional needs. Please see the referral information document and referral form.

York Parent Carer Forum (YPCF)
YPCF is a parent led forum for parents of disabled children and young people, or those who have additional needs, in York and the surrounding area. The group aims to enable disabled children and their families to lead full and meaningful lives, through seeking to improve services and by providing informal social support.
York Inspirational Kids
A support group for families and carers of children with disabilities and additional needs living within the York area. There is a specific group for families with children with Autism ('Ausome Kids'). See the York Inspirational Kids website for more information.
Disabled Children's Charter
The City of York Council have signed the national Every Disabled Child Matters Charter. The good practice in York is recognised in the ‘Positive Impact of Every Child Matters Charter’
The partnership of agencies in York through the YorOK board has gone further and developed a local charter which sets out what those working with children, young people and families have committed to doing to improve outcomes for disabled children in York.
