Royal British Legion Drop-in Sessions

The Royal British Legion are now offering drop-in sessions on the first Wednesday of every month from 10am till 1pm at West Offices. Pop in for information, advice and guidance for serving members of the Armed Forces, Reservists, veterans and their families

Get support if you serve/have served in armed forces - we can signpost you to help and support with:

  • education and training
  • housing
  • employment
  • welfare
  • health
  • drug and alcohol services
  • family support

We’re taking measures to ensure that:

  • our armed forces community is not disadvantaged in provision of services compared to other citizens
  • special consideration is given in some cases to members of our armed forces community, such as the injured and bereaved

York Community Armed Forces Covenant

The Armed Forces Covenant is a government scheme which encourages mutual support between communities and armed forces personnel, including veterans.

York’s Armed Forces Covenant describes how we’re working with other organisations to support active and ex-service men, women and their families in our area, including:

  • encouraging local communities to support you in the wider community
  • encouraging activities, events and projects which help to integrate you into local life
  • nurturing an awareness of issues affecting you and recognising sacrifices made by the armed forces
  • implementing appropriate policies to support you
  • understanding your needs while developing services
  • providing employment and training opportunities
  • raising awareness of what support is available to you
  • promoting and supporting the NHS Veterans Mental Health service

We, in partnership with 4 other North Yorkshire local authorities, have recently been awarded £196k from the Ministry of Defence for a 2 year project to 'Strengthen Local Government Delivery of the Covenant'.
