Community group local case studies

There are a number of successful community venues and hubs in York. Here are just a few:

Lidgett Grove

Run by the Lidgett Grove Methodist Church, this community venue is currently in the process of becoming a community hub and is developing their programme of activities and events for the community. The cafe was set up following Joseph Rowntree Foundation research which found that local people needed a place to meet.

Clements Hall

Clements Hall originally belonged to St Clements Church. It was sold to the St Clements Hall Preservation Trust which was set up by a group of local people to save it for use by the local community. The Trust are now leaseholders and Clements Hall now offers a number of activities including a community cinema ,as well as offering space for events and meetings.

Oaken Grove Community Centre

At Oaken Grove Community Centre an active group of volunteers organise and run activities and events for the community. Formerly Oaken Grove Primary School the building was leased to the Trustees of Haxby and Wigginton Youth and Community Association to run as a community centre.

Coming Soon... York Community Stadium

As part of the new York Community Stadium project the facility will provide a 'health hub' for the local community. The new hub will be developed from the existing swimming pool and gym at the Huntington Stadium with the focus on improving the Health & Wellbeing of the City's residents.
