On street parking

You have to pay to park in on-street parking bays on:

  • Carmelite Street
  • Lawrence Street
  • Lord Mayor's Walk
  • North Street
  • Palmer Lane
  • Piccadilly
  • Priory Street
  • Skeldergate
  • Tanner's Moat
  • Toft Green
  • Walmgate

On-street parking charges

Charges to park on the streets above are:

  • one hour: £2.10
  • two hours: £4.20
  • three hours: £6.30 (parking for over 2 hours is only allowed after 3pm)
  • evening: FREE for York residents with a parking discount badge, £2 for others

One and two hour charges apply every day from 8am to 6pm, except for Priory Street where the charges on Sunday do not start until 1pm. Evening charges apply to all the above streets from 6pm until midnight.

On-street parking on Micklegate

Charges to park on Micklegate are:

  • 30 minutes: 30p
  • one hour: 60p
  • two hours: £4
  • three hours: £6 (parking for over 2 hours is only allowed after 3pm)
  • evening: FREE for York residents with a parking discount badge, £2 for others

The 30 minutes, one and two hour charges apply every day from 8am to 6pm, except Sundays when the charges only apply from 1pm to 6pm. Evening charges apply from 6pm until midnight.

On-street parking on Foss Islands Road

This area of on-street parking is designed for larger vehicles such as minibuses up to 25 seats, motorhomes and caravans.

These charges apply Monday to Sunday, 8am to 9pm.

  • up to 2 hours: £3.80
  • up to 5 hours: £6
  • up to 13 hours: £9.50

On-street evening only parking

Additional On-Street Evening Only parking bays are available at the following locations:

  • Fossgate
  • Piccadilly
  • St Denys Road
  • The Stonebow
  • Walmgate

The bays are available for parking from 6pm to 8am every evening. The charge is £2 for any length of stay between 6pm and 8am except for York Resident Discount Badge Holders who may park FREE OF CHARGE.

The charges apply Monday to Saturday at St Denys Road and everyday at Fossgate, Piccadilly, The Stonebow and Walmgate.

On-street parking in ResPark zones

If you are not a resident of the parking zone you can park for up to one hour in some of the spaces, provided that you buy a pay and display ticket. If you are a resident of the parking zone you do not have to pay, and there is no limit to how long you can park, provided that you display a resident parking permit for the correct zone.

  • Townend Street
  • Union Terrace
  • Walmgate

All the ResPark pay and display bays allow parking for one hour only. The charges apply every day from 8am to 8pm apart from Lead Mill Lane where they do not apply on Sundays.
