Council housing rents

We charge rent weekly.

If you have an introductory or secure tenancy you will usually pay over 48 weeks with 4 rent free weeks each year, totalling 52 weeks.

The rent free weeks in 2016 are 21 and 28 March. If you have rent arrears or a court order you need to continue to pay during these weeks.

Get rent ready

You need to pay your rent in advance before you can sign your tenancy agreement for a new council home. This applies to new tenants and existing tenants who want to move home.

If you are bidding for properties, 'get rent ready' or your property offer could be withdrawn - see the Get Rent Ready factsheet, which explains what you need to do.
