Business waste disposal and the law

Find out more about your business responsibility for commercial waste disposal.

If you bring business waste to either of our Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) and attempt to dispose of it as household waste, you're breaking the law and may be liable to a maximum fine of £50,000 (under Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990).

We monitor all waste disposal at both our HWRCs.

We'll take enforcement action against any business which ignores their waste disposal responsibilities under the law.

Crime Not to Care

It's every householder's responsibility to ensure their domestic waste is disposed of responsibly.

Find out more about our #CrimeNotToCare campaign and how, if domestic waste is fly-tipped (even by someone such as a rogue trader who offered to take it away), the law states that the householder could be held responsible and face prosecution.

A fair trading environment

Our policy is to ensure a fair trading environment for local businesses. All businesses must register and pay to use Hazel Court HWRC.

We'll take action against anyone who ignores these requirements and seeks to gain advantages by not doing so.
