Funding for sports clubs

YorWellbeing small grants fund

The YorWellbing 'small grants fund' (SGF) can help clubs and organisations to:

  • further engagement and representation within the local community, particularly with those who are not currently club members
  • reduce health inequalities
  • increase the number of new participants
  • support the delivery of a quality sporting or activity experience

The grant must be used to fulfil one of these criteria and cover coach or volunteer education, equipment, venue hire or the delivery of new programmes of activity.

Applying for a YorWellbeing Small Grant

As the SGF has a limited amount of money:

  • the amount of funding for each application is limited to £500
  • only 1 application can be accepted from a club/organisation in each financial year
  • evidence may be requested to prove the legitimate use of grants

The funding window for this grant is open from 11 January 2017 until 15 February 2017. Download an application form.

YorWellbeing Hub Club Fund

The YorWellbeing Hub Club project aims to utilise clubs to enable community engagement by developing hub sites to utilise as community venues. The project aims to support clubs to increase the number of individuals using their sports club facilities through hosting a variety of different activities at the site, thus allowing the club to generate revenue through facility hire. Successful applicants will receive £1,000 of funding to spend on improving the quality of experience available to existing members. The club would offer new community engagement sessions as a way of increasing its involvement with the local community. These community engagement sessions would meet the demand of the club’s associates and the local community, and would not be an additional session exclusive to existing club members. There is also the expectation that a YorWellbeing Hub Club would have a voluntary committee member responsible for Health and Wellbeing within the club who would receive free of charge training in this area. It would be expected that this ‘Health Ambassador’ would use this knowledge to help develop further initiatives within their Hub Club. Further information, including exact funding guidelines, can be found in the guidance notes.
