On 19 June 2015 we introduced an Article 4 Direction in relation to the Punch Bowl Public House 134, Lowther Street, which stops it from being converted for use as a shop, without planning permission.

All enquiries regarding to this article 4 direction should be directed to our planning enquiries team.

Further information

National 'permitted development rights' under the 'General Permitted Development Order' allow certain types of development to proceed without the need for planning permission, including the change of a public house to a shop.

However, this direction means planning permission is needed for any 'change of use' of the Punch Bowl from its current use to a retail shop.

See background papers relating to the decision to confirm this article 4 direction.
