Acupuncture, electrolysis, piercing and tattooing

Download the forms to register with us as a practitioner and to register your premises (under the 'Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1982') to carry out:

  • acupuncture
  • electrolysis
  • skin piercing
  • tattooing
  • semi-permanent skin colouring

Registration is required for practitioners (the people who carry out the activity) and the premises where the activity takes place. As an employer or self-employed person, you must also comply with Health and Safety laws at all times.

Guidelines and byelaws

Registered practitioners of acupuncture and tattooing must comply with byelaws; registered premises must also meet the standards. We have also produced guidelines covering acupuncture, body piercing, ear piercing and electrolysis.

Registration fees

As from 1 April 2017, the fees to register for acupuncture, electrolysis, piercing or tattooing are:

  • £157 per premises
  • £157 per practitioner
