We have the authority to ask those who have set up unauthorised encampments to move on, when encampments are on public land.

Report an unauthorised encampment

To report an unauthorised encampment, contact us and tell us the:

  • location of the unauthorised encampment
  • date and time of arrival
  • number of vehicles and caravans occupying the land

Please report any anti-social behaviour or crime relating to the encampment to the Police on telephone: 101.

Action we take on unauthorised encampments

Neighbourhood Enforcement Officers will visit the site and make contact with the occupiers. They'll also carry out checks, for example, relating to the welfare and educational needs of those on site.

We may then issue a 'direction to leave notice':

  • this notice states that the occupiers must leave the land within a specific time period
  • failure to leave could progress to a court order to remove any vehicles from the land with the assistance of bailiffs
