Traffic enforcement - Coppergate

Access to the Coppergate bus lane is restricted between the junctions with Clifford Street/Nessgate and Piccadilly.

Restrictions are in place between 8am and 6pm, 7 days a week.

Only the following motor vehicles are allowed through Coppergate during restricted hours:

  • 8am to 10am: buses, taxis and private hire vehicles
  • 10am to 4pm: buses, taxis, private hire vehicles and other vehicles for loading purposes only
  • 4pm to 6pm: buses, taxis and private hire vehicles

Between 6pm and 8am access is not restricted. The restrictions do not apply to pedal cycles.

Penalty Charge Notices

If you breach the restrictions you will be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).

Using our online service, you can:

  • pay for a PCN
  • find out more information about the contravention
  • submit an appeal

You will need your Penalty Charge Number and Vehicle Registration Number in order to use the online service.

Traffic enforcement cameras

The restrictions are enforced by automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) traffic cameras.

The ANPR cameras will capture footage of vehicles and car registration details during restricted hours. The reviewing and processing of potential PCNs is then dealt with manually.

Signs are positioned at street level to alert motorists entering Coppergate of the restrictions.
