Additional garden waste subscription scheme

Our garden waste collections begin in March each year, with fortnightly collections until the start of December.

Any households who have an existing garden waste collection and would like to have more than 1 garden waste bin collected between March and December can subscribe to the additional garden waste subscription scheme.

Our collection vehicles use in-cab technology to identify properties which have subscribed to the scheme.

You should identify all of your garden waste bins with your house number or house name, particularly if they're put out alongside those of neighbours.

Additional garden waste subscription charges

Garden waste subscription scheme charges are subject to annual review, usually in January each year before the start of the new season; these charges are correct for 2024.

There is currently no charge for garden waste collections for the start of the season in 2024 if you only have 1 green bin at your address. However, we'll begin a subscription service for the first green bin later this year.

The first bin will cost £46.50, but will be reduced depending on when the charge is introduced. There is no requirement to subscribe and you can compost at home and dispose of garden waste free at Hazel Court HWRC or Towthorpe and Strensall HWRC. You can subscribe for additional bins at a cost of £46.50 per additional bin.

Any new subscriptions are valid until the end of the current season, so you're encouraged to subscribe at the start of the season to make full use of the service.

Garden waste collection days

We collect garden waste each year from the middle of March to early December.

Our online waste collection calendar is updated in December; it shows collection information from December to November. If your final garden waste collection takes place in early December this will show after the calendar has been updated.

You can check the dates garden waste will be collected using our online waste collection calendar.

Please ensure that garden waste is put out by 7.00am on your scheduled collection days, but no earlier than 7.00pm the evening before.

Missed garden waste collections

If your garden waste collection has been missed, check our waste collection updates for details of any known service issues.

We will not issue any refund of your subscription charges if a garden waste collection is missed, but you may be able to report a missed collection. See details of how we deal with missed garden waste collections.

If a garden waste collection is missed, we can only return to collect waste from bins which are part of the subscription service. For example, if you have 3 garden waste bins at your property, and pay for the second and third bins as part of the subscription service, we'll only revisit for 2 of those 3.
