During 2017 and 2018 the York Community Recycling Fund (YCRF) is supporting 18 projects which contribute to:

  • sustainable waste prevention
  • repairing and reusing
  • recycling

A panel including the council's Executive Member for the Environment, Cllr Andrew Waller and officers from the Waste Services Team assessed applications for the funding before recommendations were brought to the decision session for the Executive Member for the Environment in March 2017.

Derwent Lions Providing a Christmas tree collection in Elvington and Dunnington in January 2018. Fully fund £392.79
Environment Committee of Bishopthorpe Parish Council Bishopthorpe Recycling Day – annual event runs to promote recycling and is attended by local residents. Part fund £220.00
Grove Residents' Association Encouraging residents in the area to recycle more and help develop a more communal attitude towards self-help and reducing landfill waste. Fully fund £2,000.00
Holgate Carriage Garden Shared garden to promote 'grow your own', recycling and composting. Fully fund £1,000.00
Planet Southbank Season of recycling/upcycling events including a repair cafe, skills workshops, Southbank-wide recycling. Part fund £976.00
Poppleton Road Memorial Hall Install energy efficient measures in the Hall and promote recycling and reuse of items by Hall users. Part fund £40.00
Restoration Works (York City Church) '3 foot project' - make compost bins and raised bed kits to promote food waste composting and 'grow your own'. Kits provided to households who are receipt of benefits or to be sold to those not in receipt of benefits. Fully fund £3,390.84
SNAPPY Improve and increase collection of aluminium foil, drink cans and household cables for recycling to help raise money for SNAPPY. Fully fund £350.00
St Nicks Run a 6 month York Fix-it cafe pilot, with monthly workshops and weekly drop-in sessions, to promote waste minimisation and prevent waste to landfill by sharing skills, upcycling and repairing items. Part fund £2,243.00
Tang Hall Community Centre Help create a green community centre, encourage recycling and composting at the centre and promote recycling and reusing within the wider community. Fully fund £5,000.00
York Community Furniture Store Extend its activities and encourage greater reuse through promotion and publicity Part fund £2,500.00
York Men's Shed Renovate a range of tools, reuse furniture and recycle timber into useful wooden items. Fully fund £1,000.00
York Nurturing Community (YNC) Larder and pop-up café project running 12 events throughout 2017 to reduce and reuse food waste in the community. Part fund £250.00
Your Café Pumpkin food reuse project within the local community. Growing their own, harvesting and cooking pumpkins. Fully fund £298.00
