Pay by credit or debit card

If you wish to pay by credit or debit card you can pay council tax online (or find out how to pay council rent and other invoices).

Pingit

To pay your council tax bill using Pingit, simple instructions are available.

At any PayPoint

Council tax and business rates can be paid by cheque or cash at any Post Office, or by cash at any shop or garage, displaying the PayPoint symbol.

By debit or credit card over the phone

  • by calling our council tax team, via our customer centre
  • call our Automated Payment Line. This line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You will need your council tax or business rates payment reference number.

Please note that all Credit Card transactions incur a 2% surcharge and we can only accept VISA and MasterCard.

We are not able to take cash or cheques to pay council tax over the counter at our Customer Centre.

Instalment plans

Council Tax

Domestic council tax can be set up in the following instalment plans:

  • one instalment
  • two instalments
  • ten instalments
  • twelve instalments

Most bills are set to ten instalments, so if you wish to change it, please contact our council tax department as soon as possible.

National Non-Domestic Rates (NNDR) or business rates

Business rates can be set up in the following instalment plans:

  • one instalment
  • two instalments
  • ten instalments
