Severe mental impairment exemption

Where someone is suffering from a severe mental impairment, lives alone and is liable for council tax we will award a 100% council tax exemption. We will award a 50% council tax disregard if they live with one qualifying carer, or a 25% disregard if they live with one other person over the age of 18.

As we will need to contact the claimant’s doctor to award the exemption, we require a completed application for exemption discount severe mental impairment form. Please post your completed form to Council Tax, City of York Council, West Offices, Station Rise, York, YO1 6GA.
