Shape Acomb Front Street's future

Acomb Front Street is an important high street in York. It plays a vital role in the community and the wider city, and is home to many established and well-loved local independent retailers and community spaces.

Acomb Front Street

We are putting local residents and businesses at the centre of plans to shape the future of Front Street. We also want to talk about how the pandemic has changed what you do, where you want to do it and how Front Street fits in to those plans.

Your contributions will help us to create an action plan to help Front Street provide the shops, services, spaces and jobs which benefit resident and boost the local economy.

Acomb Front Street

Like the city centre, it has a lower than national average proportion of empty units. While high streets all over the UK have increasing numbers of empty shop units, Front Street’s occupancy rates increased significantly in the last 3 years.

But it is not immune from the challenges facing high streets across the country, including the impact of coronavirus.

While high streets and district centres have always evolved, changes to the way we bank, work, access services and spend money are quicker and more dramatic than ever before.

The coronavirus response has sped these changes up, and will change some people’s behaviour forever. It has also helped more York residents to reconnect with their local communities, shops and services.
