Our Environment and Community Officers work with volunteers to:
- help maintain a cleaner, safer, greener environment in York
- create attractive neighbourhoods
- create a real sense of community
- improve health, wellbeing and inclusivity
We have many opportunities available for volunteers, including:
- Litter picking - help improve the appearance of areas that may otherwise be neglected (see: Great British Spring Clean)
- Gardening - help tend the city's green spaces
- Snow Warden Scheme - helping keep residential pavements clear of snow and ice
- Park locking and unlocking - volunteers help keep parks secure
- Himalayan Balsam bashing - reducing this evasive non-native plant
- Leaf clearing - keeping drains and paths clear of leaves
To help you get the most out of your volunteering experience, we'll provide you with:
- health and safety training
- appropriate equipment
- ongoing support
- insurance
For more volunteering opportunities, please contact York CVS or see the national volunteering database at Do-it.org.
