For the safety of our staff and customers, and to help minimise the spread of coronavirus, York Register Office is currently closed to the public. Unless you have an appointment to register a birth, please do not visit in person.
We're resuming ceremonies from the Saturday 4 July 2020 in our office at Bootham.
Ceremonies booked with us at our Bootham office
As with other Register Offices in the region that are able to reopen and in line with government advice, the council is maintaining the 2m social distancing. This means initially 8 guests (excluding the couple and officiants) will be allowed in our Bootham Suite, in addition the small ceremony where the couple and only two witnesses attend will continue as normal. We are working with other council locations and our approved premises to allow 30 people to attend a wedding and will announce more details should this be possible.
The date and time of your current ceremony may be revised and we will be in contact with couples to discuss your options.
For more details on how your ceremony will be affected please call 01904 654477 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Ceremonies booked with one of our venues
If you have a ceremony booked with one of our venues please contact them and ensure they will be open on the day of your ceremony and discuss what changes have been made for example the maximum number of guests.
Postponing a ceremony
If you would like to postpone your ceremony please contact us by emailing email@example.com and include your names, date, time, venue and a contact number and we will be in touch. Please note we are not able to offer new dates until after Thursday 1October 2020 onwards but you will be given priority.
We continue to offer couples the chance to postpone their weddings at no extra cost should they wish to in the current circumstances.
Canceling a ceremony
We've continued to rearrange bookings for those who have been affected by the lockdown and are committed to offering couples the opportunity to get married or enter into a civil partnership. However, if you would like to cancel your ceremony please email firstname.lastname@example.org and include your full names/date/time and venue of your ceremony and we will action your request.
If you are cancelling your ceremony due to the pandemic you will receive the £50 non-refundable deposit back as a good will gesture during these exceptional times.
