The first stage of the process of converting a civil partnership into a marriage takes place at the York Register Office. The second stage of the process is the ceremony.

Civil partnerships that cannot be converted into a marriage
If you formed a civil partnership (or equivalent relationship) outside England and Wales (for example abroad or in Scotland or Northern Ireland) you can't convert these into a marriage at York Register Office.
