Young people's personal information

York Youth Services (YYS) gives a privacy notice to young people and their parents/carers. It summarises the information we need to hold about you, why we hold it and who it can be passed on to.

As well as helping us to provide the best service possible to the young people we work with, this also makes sure we meet the requirements imposed by the Data Protection Act 1998.

The Privacy Notice is a single information sheet for young people and their parents/carers.  Examples of when we might use a Privacy Notice are:

  • when a young person starts working with a Personal Support and Inclusion Worker
  • when a young person meets their YOT officer after a first court appearance
  • when a young person uses our advice service

Using your information

We use information about young people we work with to provide them with the best service possible.

We also use it for statistical purposes. For example, to inform decisions on how we work with young people and their families, and to assess our performance.

Sharing your information

As well as the types of professionals mentioned in the privacy notice, we are required by law to pass some information on to the Department for Education and the Ministry of Justice. The information is stored and transferred securely.

One of our databases is shared with North Yorkshire Youth Support Services.  They are able to see information about young people, but unless they have a reason to see it, for example they are working with a young person, they will not look at it.

If you would like access to your records, you need to complete a request for disclosure of personal data and complete a subject access request form.

We cannot give you any information about other people on your file, for example your friends, your family or victims.
