York archaeological development study

An Archaeology and Development study investigated the future of archaeology in York and identified a potential conflict between protecting our archaeological heritage and future pressures for development.

The study intended to:

  • update our knowledge of the city’s archaeological heritage
  • provide a framework to ensure development sites in the city are chosen in a way that conserves our archaeological heritage

The Archaeology and Development study review assessed how well the recommendations of the original study had been met.

World Class Heritage conference

To mark the 20th anniversary of the publication of the original study, the York Archaeological Forum sponsored a World Class Heritage conference.
