My City Centre York Project update

The My City Centre York project has been paused temporarily as staff are redeployed to the coronavirus emergency response. Thank you for all responses to date which will be taken into account when we recommence. We look forward to resuming discussions on the long term vision for the city centre soon.

My City Centre York will follow the successful approach to engagement developed through the My Castle Gateway project. We will place the public and other important voices at the heart of the process to develop the future vision for the city centre.

My City Centre York will be an open conversation with a range of voices including:

  • residents
  • businesses
  • visitors

We'll use the conversation to shape a preferred strategic vision which will be taken to the council’s Executive for approval. This will follow 3 key principles:

  1. Build a brief: Use a variety of engagement tools to gain an understanding of a diverse range of people’s needs and ideas. Make these ideas and differing perspectives visible
  2. Explore Challenges: Cultivate an open public debate about complex issues. Share and explain challenges, decisions and compromises throughout
  3. Make change together: Build ongoing networks to retain involvement, as well as long term community influence in decision-making, design and delivery
