Better Homes York is a council-endorsed energy efficiency scheme set up to help homeowners, private tenants and private landlords across the city. The aim of the scheme is to create warmer, healthier homes and to reduce the cost of fuel bills.

You can find out how energy efficient your home is by checking its Energy Performance Certificate.

Find out if you qualify for financial assistance

If you have a low household income and don’t have a central heating system, you may qualify for first time gas central heating from the Council’s Warm Home Fund scheme. This scheme is available to private home owners as well as tenants of both private landlords and the council. If you think you may qualify contact Housing Standards and Adaptations to enquire.

If you're a disabled person living in a home which you own and your heating boiler is beyond economical repair, you may be able to get financial assistance to help to replace it. Our Discretionary Adaptation Grant works with Better Homes Yorkshire to provide quality assured boiler replacements which meet all of the current Regulations and requirements.

Make an online enquiry with Better Homes Yorkshire

If you don't qualify for financial assistance, our partner Better Homes Yorkshire can still arrange for an approved installer to carry out quality assured work at your property.

Boiler replacements can cost as little as £2,000 and may be possible within 48 hours of making an enquiry.

Loft, cavity wall and solid wall insulation are also available at competitive rates through Better Homes Yorkshire.
