Parliamentary election July 2024

His Majesty King Charles has granted permission to dissolve Parliament for a General Election, to be held on Thursday 4 July 2024; elections to appoint members of parliament (MPs) for the York Central and York Outer parliamentary constituencies took place.

Alongside the General Election, there was a by-election for Hull Road Ward.

In the run up to the election, we provided more information for local residents including:

Changes to voting

The Elections Act 2022 changed election processes; you need photographic voter ID to vote in person at a polling station, support for disabled voters has been improved, and absent voting, postal and proxy voting have changed, alongside EU citizens' voting and candidacy rights and overseas elector updates.
