Blind person's bus pass

York residents of any age who are registered blind are entitled to a Blind person's bus pass. In addition to the benefits offered by the National bus pass, this pass offers:

  • free travel on all service buses in the City of York Council area at any time of day
  • free travel on York Dial & Ride buses

Residents choosing a bus pass cannot also claim National Transport Tokens.

Applying for a pass

In person

Your can apply for a bus pass at the Council Reception at 9 St Leonard's Place between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

You must bring:

  • proof of your address (eg photocopies of a current gas or electricity bill)
  • proof of your age (photocopies of passport, birth certificate, medical card or a letter/statement from the pension service)
  • a photocopy of your registration as blind

You do not need to bring a photograph if you apply in person. The issuing staff will take your photograph while you wait.

By post

To apply by post, you must complete an application form. When you send us your form, you must include proof of your entitlement as above, plus a passport sized photograph (write your name on the back).

Return the completed form to Transport Planning Unit (BP), City of York Council, 9 St. Leonard's Place, FREEPOST (YO239), York YO1 7ZZ. Please allow up to 10 days for us to process your application.
