Concessionary travel

The following travel concessions are available to qualifying York residents:

Young people

  • A YOzone card which entitles secondary school age children to travel by bus at reduced fares
  • A 16-25 railcard allowing reduced fare rail travel

Older people

  • Anyone of qualifying age who lives within the City of York is entitled to a national bus pass for older people that entitles you to FREE travel on local bus services throughout England
  • Older people who also have a qualifying disability may alternatively choose to claim a Taxicard which provides up to £55 per year free travel allowance with selected taxi companies.

People aged 60 or over can also apply for a discounted senior railcard allowing reduced fare rail travel.

People with qualifying disabilities

Anyone with a qualifying disability who lives within the City of York area has a choice of one of the following concessions:

    York residents with a qualifying disability are entitled to a concessionary bus pass

    York residents of qualifying age are entitled to a concessionary bus pass
  • Senior railcard
    People aged 60 or over can apply for a discounted senior railcard allowing reduced fare rail travel.
  • Taxicard
    We have recently introduced the York Taxicard for York residents of any age who have a qualifying disability. The Taxicard replaces transport tokens, and is an alternative to the National Bus Pass.
  • YOzone
    YOzone is an ID card issued to pupils aged 11 to 16, enabling you to travel at child fares on most bus services in York at any time of day, any day of the week
