Ebor Race Meeting 19-22 August 2008
This race meeting has been cancelled.
Traffic Management for Race Meetings
Traffic management measures are introduced in the Knavesmire area for days
when race meetings occur. How race day traffic will be managed depends on
the expected attendance numbers for each individual meeting. For
a standard race meeting, measures can include the following restrictions.
-
Directional signage will be placed on major
arterial routes to the city to encourage traffic to approach the
racecourse via A1237/A64. Further signage within the city
boundaries will reinforce the preferred route of approach.
-
No Waiting Cones on
Knavesmire Road, Campleshon Road,
Albemarle Road, Knavesmire
Avenue, Knavesmire Crescent,
Bishopthorpe Road and one side of Church
Lane, Bishopthorpe.
-
On the departure stage,
the traffic lights at the Sim Balk Lane/Tadcaster Road
junction will be turned off. This will necessitate a NO
RIGHT TURN towards the city for traffic leaving Sim Balk Lane. All
traffic leaving the A64 to travel to Bishopthorpe will be directed
towards the Askham Bar roundabout to execute a ‘U’
turn. Vehicles will then approach the junction from the city
direction and will be able to turn left into Sim Balk Lane. It is
estimated that the restrictions will apply from 4.30 – 7.00
pm. Although times may vary depending on traffic flows.
In addition, for race days where the attendance is expected to be higher,
some of the following measures may be introduced:
-
Knavesmire Road and Tadcaster Road Junction -
Temporary Traffic Lights will operate from 10.00am until 2.00pm and
4.00pm until 7.30pm.
-
Campleshon Road and Knavesmire Road - these roads
will operate as a one way system (from St Chad's
Church) between 10.00am and 7.30pm, entry
from Bishopthorpe Road and exit onto Tadcaster Road.
-
Montague Street, Kensington Street, Trafalgar Street, Lorne
Street, Albemarle Road, Curzon Terrace, and Knavesmire Crescent
- These roads will be closed at their junctions with
Campleshon Road from 10.00am
