A staggering twenty percent of new drivers crash within their first year of driving.

As part of our ongoing commitment to improve the safety of York's roads, we are offering new drivers the chance to improve their driving skills and build their confidence on the roads at low cost to themselves.

Pass Plus is nationally recognised advanced driving course, run by the Driving Standards Agency, aimed at newly qualified drivers. We are currently offering subsidies towards the cost of these courses.

To be eligible for a discount of £60 off the usual Pass Plus rate, valid with these participating driving schools, you must: 

• live in the City of York Council area;
• hold a full UK driving licence;
• have passed your driving test within the last 12 months;
• and agree to complete an evaluation form after completing the course.

Courses take six hours to complete, split into a number of sessions. Six modules of driving are covered:

• In town
• Out of town
• In all weathers
• At night
• On dual carriageways
• On motorways

Many insurance companies offer discounts for drivers who have successfully completed a Pass Plus course within 12 months of passing their driving test.
