Information on all bus services in York and the Yorkshire region is available on the Yorkshire Journey Planner website. Enter where you are travelling from and to and the journey planner will find the right timetable for you.
The council subsidises many early-morning, evening, bank holiday and Sunday services. We also help to keep buses moving by introducing traffic measures such as bus lanes and bus priority systems.
The following information services are available to York residents:
You can call the Bus Info (01904) 551400 number for bus information. Calls are answered by Traveline Yorkshire, who will be able to help with all public transport enquiries. Lines are open between 8.00am and 8.00pm, seven days a week. Calls to this number from a York landline are charged at local rates.
Alternatively you can call National Traveline on 0871 200 22 33. Calls to the national number cost 10p per minute from a UK landline.
Where possible, direct links to online bus timetables can be found on our Bus route frequencies and timetables page.
For printed timetables and fares information contact the relevant bus operator directly. Timetables can also be obtained from all York libraries and main council offices. See Bus companies operating in York for contact details and links to bus operators' websites.
Concessionary bus passes and YOzone cards are available from the council reception at 9 St Leonard's Place during council opening hours.
Self-service information points are located at the Railway Station, Rougier Street, University Road and at Acomb shops. These can be used to view or print maps and timetables. You can also access the Yorkshire Journey Planner from any internet-connected computer. Internet access is available free to York residents at all public libraries.
When the bus you want approaches your stop always indicate clearly to the driver, by a hand signal, that you need it to stop for you. This applies to all bus stops including those in the city centre.
Please try and have the right money or bus pass ready when boarding your bus. Change is usually available but havng the correct fare will help to reduce journey delays.
Please be aware that bus tickets are specific to each operator and are not transferable.
