Dial & Ride

Dial & Ride provides a door-to-door service, taking you from home to the city centre, supermarkets or local shops.

The service also provides transport to the Swimability disabled swimming sessions at Energise pool on Sundays.

The buses are equipped for people who have difficulty walking and for wheelchair users.

How to use Dial & Ride

You can book in advance by calling the hotline. Calls will be taken between 9:00am and 12:00pm, Monday to Friday.

There are limited seats available on each bus, therefore we cannot take more bookings once the bus is full. Bookings can be made up to four weeks in advance.

Step 1 - Find your ward

Find out which ward area you live in. There may be some flexibility for people who live very near to a boundary between neighbouring wards.

Step 2 - Choose your journey

Choose where you would like to go to from the list below:

  • City Centre
  • Askham Bar / Clifton Moor (dependent on ward)
  • Energise (formerly Oaklands Sports Centre)
  • Monks Cross
  • Sainsbury's (Foss Bank) and Morrisons (Foss Islands)

Step 3 - Make your booking

Call the hotline to make your booking. The Dial & Ride buses visit set locations on each day, shown in the timetable on the right hand side of this page.

The booking clerk will help you to find out which journeys are available from your ward.

Step 4 - Pay for your journey

Pay the driver when you travel:

  • Single fare £1.75
  • Return fare £3.50 (payable using cash, Taxicard or transport tokens)
  • Single for bus pass holder £1.00
  • Return for bus pass holder £1.75
  • Blind person's bus pass holders travel FREE

Printed copies of the Dial & Ride leaflet, including a full timetable, are available on all Dial & Ride vehicles and from council reception points.
