If your main residence is within the central area of York, which is basically within the City walls, you can buy a resident contract parking permit from the council, provided that no one else in your household has a resident contract permit or is part of a resident parking scheme, and that you do not have a garage or sufficient space for a motor car.  The permit will allow you to park your vehicle in the following car parks at a reduced rate.

• Haymarket Car Park
• Union Terrace Car Park

Buying a resident contract permit

You can buy a resident contract parking permit lasting for a minimum of one month and a maximum of one year.

Prices

• Foss Bank car park (annual) = £700.00, monthly = £65.00
• other car parks (annual) = £685.00, monthly = £60.00

The Foss Bank permits are more expensive because the car park is securely locked at night.

Discounts

If your car is shorter than 2.7m in length or one that is a low emission vehicle with emissions up to 120g/km2 or is electric or LPG powered you will be eligible for a discount.  If you are unaware of the emission level of your vehicle, go to DVLA vehicle online services, select 'Vehicle Enquiry', then enter your vehicle registration number and vehicle make.

A discount resident contract permit is £325 per year or £30 per month at Foss Bank car park and £288 per year or £25 per month at all other car parks.

To apply for a short car or low emission parking discount complete the application form and ensure you include a copy of your vehicle registration document to enable us to check the emission level or length of your vehicle.

Renewing your resident contract parking permit

You will receive a renewal form shortly before your resident contract parking permit expires. Please complete and return it at least two weeks before your permit expires.
