If you live within the central area of York, i.e within the City walls, you can buy a resident contract parking permit from the council. This will allow you to park your vehicle in certain car parks.

They can be used in:

• Foss Bank Car Park 
• Marygate Car Park
• Nunnery Lane Car Park 
• Peel Street Car Park
• Haymarket Car Park
• Union Terrace Car Park

Buying a resident contract parking permit

You can buy a resident contract parking permit that lasts for one year or for one month. Tickets begin on the first day of the month and end on the last day of the month.

Prices

• Foss Bank car park (yearly) = £650.00, monthly = £60.00
• other long stay car parks (yearly) = £576.00, monthly = £50.00

Discounts

If your car is shorter than 2.7m or is classed as a low emission vehicle you will be entitled to a 50% discount. Find out more about short car parking discounts and low emission vehicle parking discounts.

Concessions

Find out if you are eligbile for travel concessions which could reduce the cost of your permit. If you are eligible you will be issued with a discount voucher to use when you apply for or renew your permit.

Complete the form and post to Parking Services. Payment must be included with your completed application form, cheques or postal orders are made payable to 'City of York Council'.

To apply for a short car or low emission parking discount complete the application form and ensure you include a copy of your vehicle registration document which will prove the length / emission of your car.

Using your resident contract parking permit

You can park your vehicle in any of the Council's standard stay car parks listed above.

Renewing your resident contract parking permit

You will receive a renewal form shortly before your resident contract parking permit expires. Complete and return it before your permit expires.
