Discount badges are available to residents of the City of York who wish to park at a reduced rate in the council's car parks. You must display the badge in your windscreen when parked.

Discount badges are issued free of charge.

How to get a discount badge

To get a discount badge you must provide a photocopy of your vehicle registration document showing that you own the vehicle and that you live within the City of York boundary.

Send the photocopy of your vehicle registration document and a stamped addressed envelope to Parking Services, or call at the Council Offices at 9 St Leonard's Place with your vehicle registration document.

What if I drive a company vehicle?

If you drive a company vehicle then the vehicle is unlikely to be registered to your address as you are not the owner of the vehicle. In such cases we ask you to provide a letter from your company on headed company notepaper explaining that you have the use of a company vehicle and confirming your name and address and vehicle registration number. In addition we ask you to provide evidence that you are a York resident, for example a utility or council tax demand.

If you change your vehicle

Badges are only valid when used on the vehicle that the proof has been provided for. Therefore if you change your vehicle we need to see proof of ownership for the new vehicle.

We need to see a vehicle registration document from you showing your name and address and the details of your new vehicle. However, we do recognise that sometimes there may be delay in receiving a vehicle registration document from the DVLA. If this is the case we are willing to accept a certificate of insurance for the vehicle together with proof of residence (i.e. council tax or utility bill).

Lost or damaged badges

If you have lost or damaged your discount badge, a replacement badge can be issued provided that a copy of your vehicle registration document is provided. There is a £5.00 charge for this.
