The proposed new site for 1,250 cars (Phase 1 will create 1100 spaces, double the existing capacity) is located to the west of the existing site on the former landfill tip to the rear of the Tesco supermarket on Tadcaster Road.

The planning application was approved by the Planning Committee on 24 September 2009. The original consultation documents, planning application and final decision notice are available in the planning consent section below.

Funding for the Askham Bar site was approved by the Department for Transport on 30 November 2011. The project will be funded 70% by the DfT and 30% by the City of York Council.

Detailed design of the site is being developed in accordance with the planning consent. The design of the highway works will be subject to public consultation in early 2012 before the final layouts are approved. Details of the proposed works to the highway are included in the Highway Works section below. Any comments on the highway proposals need to be received by 24 February 2012 to allow consideration for inclusion in the final layouts.

Subject to final approval by the DfT construction will commence in early 2013 with the site due to open in the spring of 2014. The latest layout drawings are available in the 'Documents to Download' section on the right.

Please note that owing to adverse weather conditions the exhibition at the Askham Bar Park & Ride site has been postponed from 7 th February to 14 th February (8:00am to 7:00pm).
