Using your blue badge

Where you can use your blue badge in York

The map shows where you can park for free in the city centre. It includes car parks and on street bays. You should always display your badge when parking in one of these car parks or bays.

When there is a time limit on parking you must set and display the clock on your parking disc.

You can also view a more detailed version of this map in the city centre disabled access guide, which you can download from right hand side of this page.

Residents' parking areas

You can use your badge in residents' parking areas so long as you display your badge.

Double yellow lines

You can park on double yellow lines with your blue badge for up to 3 hours, unless there is a ban on loading or unloading and only if your vehicle does not cause an obstruction. You must display and set the clock on your parking disc when you park.

Displaying your disc

In England and Wales you need a parking disc when you park on yellow lines or in a parking place for badge holders that has a time limit. You will be sent this when your badge is issued.

You must display the disc on the top of the dashboard of a vehicle with the front of the disc (stating 'Front - Display this side up') facing forward so that the relevant details are legible from outside the vehicle. If the vehicle does not have a dashboard you must exhibit the disc in a conspicuous position on the vehicle so that the relevant details are legible from outside the vehicle.

The badge should only be displayed when using the parking benefits under the scheme, except if the vehicle is being driven by someone other than the badge holder for the purpose of entering or leaving an area (which is accessible only to vehicles displaying a blue badge) in order to pick up or drop off the badge holder.

It is the badge holder's responsibility to make sure the badge is used properly. You must not allow other people to use the badge. To reduce the risk of this happening accidentally, you should remove the badge whenever you are not using the parking concessions.

You must make sure the details on the front of the badge remain legible. If they become unreadable, the disc must be returned to the council for re-issuing.
